We are Steven and Lindsay, a husband & wife duo currently based in Pennsylvania, USA. We have a son named Ethan who joined our family almost 6 years ago. We started our company in 2018, which grew out of Lindsay's passion to create, hoard fabric, and blog about it. But why don't we go back to the VERY beginning...?
Steve was raised in a military family and grew up on Army bases around the US and Europe. He is the third of four kids in his family. When he's not working on our little home business, he can be found in his office working remotely for a software consulting company, or watching Star Wars, woodworking videos, or comedy shows!
Lindsay was born and raised in the UK, moving with her family to many cities across the UK, as well as brief periods in Germany & Canada. She loves to travel and see new places with a passion to explore the local culture that surrounds her. When she is not tending to a 2 year old ball of energy, she can always be found prepping her next sewing project or experimenting with photography techniques.
We'd also like to share with you another passion of ours. Several years ago we struggled to naturally conceive a baby of our own, so we turned our hearts to foster care. We became licensed foster parents in our home state of Idaho and quickly took in children who needed a safe, stable home to live in. We learned many things during our first years as foster parents and went through a range of many emotions. We have taken in several placements in the past several years, each with their own unique challenges. But all have brought us joy. We finally were able to adopt our son (not through foster care) and he brings us the most joy each and every day of our lives.
We are foster care advocates, and we hope that many more families will consider becoming licensed and open their homes to children that are in need. Married couples, single people, divorced, working, stay-at-home, own a home or rent; whatever your situation, you could qualify to foster. Please reach out to us if you are interested or have questions about foster care. We are not experts, but we'd love to point you in the right direction to have your questions answered!
Finally, some of you may wonder why we settled on "The House of Elle" as our business name. Those of you who are well versed in pop culture may be familiar with the story of Superman. It seems there are many aspects of the Superman story that are present in our lives. Superman was Lindsay's favorite superhero growing up. At one point, Steve lived on a street called Lois Lane. When Lindsay married Steve and took his last name, she suddenly had initials "LL"... Although Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El came from the "house of El", we chose to change our spelling to Elle as a nod to one of our first foster kids whom we affectionately nicknamed "Ellie".
We are enjoying discovering the different aspects of growing a business from home, and we're excited about where this journey will lead to. And we're anxious for you to come along on this journey with us.
